Trío Arbós

Winner of the Spanish National Music Award 2013, Trio Arbós was founded in Madrid in 1996, named after the famous Spanish conductor, violinist and composer Enrique Fernández Arbós (1863-1939). It is currently one of the most prestigious chamber ensembles in the European music scene.

Since its creation in 1996, one of the main goals of the Trio Arbós has been to contribute to the enrichment of the repertoire for piano trio through the commissioning of new works. Composers such as Georges Aperghis, Ivan Fedele, Toshio Hosokawa, Luis de Pablo, Mauricio Sotelo, Jesús Torres, Bernhard Gander, Thierry Pécou, Elena Mendoza, José María Sánchez Verdú, Roberto Sierra, among others, have written works for the Trio.

Trio Arbós regularly performs at major international venues and festivals: Vienna Konzerthaus, Tchakovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, Kuhmo Festival, Venice Biennale, Spoleto Festival, MUSICA Festival in Strasbourg, Berlin Philharmonie, Klangpuren Festival, ULTIMA in Oslo, Time of Music in Viitasaari, Nuova Consonanza in Rome, Casals Festival in Puerto Rico, Flamenco Biennial in The Netherlands, Transart Festival in Bolzano, Sintra Festival, Quincena Musical Donostiarra, Granada International Festival, Semana de Música Religiosa de Cuenca, Flamenco Biennial in Seville, Santander, etc.

They have recorded over 30 albums for a large number of labels. They currently record for their own label SACRATIF. The prestigious Gramophone magazine has stated of their work: "This album reaffirms the credentials of the Trio Arbós as one of the most complete and forward-looking chamber ensembles of our time". Their work in the world of flamenco music has been praised by international critics; the outcome of this work is their CD "Travesías", together with the cantaor Rafael de Utrera.

Their groundbreaking projects such as "Triple Zone", focused on the expansion of the repertoire for piano trio, are sponsored by the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung and by the BBVA Foundation. Ferdinando plays a violin made by A. Guadagnini (1781), loaned by the ProCanale Foundation in Milan. José Miguel plays a cello by the German luthier Haat-Uilderks (2010).
