Carlos Mena, countertenor Born in Vitoria-Gasteiz, he studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel (Switzerland) under the guidance of R. Levitt and R. Jacobs. In this institution he completed medieval studies and attended opera workshops.
He has been conducted by maestros such as Michel Corboz, Paul Goodwin, Mark Minkowsky, Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, Ottavio Dantone, Juanjo Mena, Gustav Leonhardt, Christoph Coin and Andrea Marcon, singing in festivals and concert halls all over the world such as Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, Palais de Beaux Arts in Brussels, Grosses Festspielehaus in Salzburg, Philarmonie in Berlin, Suntory Hall and City Opera Hall in Tokyo, Osaka Shympony Hall, Fisher Hall in Detroit, Zipper Hall and Schönberg Hall in Los Angeles, Alice Tully Hall in the New York MET, Kennedy Center in Washington, Sydney Opera House, Concert Hall in Melbourne, Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, etc.

Daniel Zapico - Theorbo Born in Langreo, Asturias. From an early age he focused his studies in the field of early music and began his specialization in theorbo at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Langreo. He concluded his higher education with the highest marks at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, with Xavier Díaz-Latorre. Later on, he obtained a master's degree in Musicology, Music Education and Performance of Early Music at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, with the unanimous praise of the examining board for his project on Robert de Visée.
Au monde, his recent solo album with his own transcriptions of French Baroque music for theorbo, has received great critical acclaim from the public and the specialized press, obtaining the most prestigious awards, such as the Diapason d'Or, ffff from Télérama, and 5 stars in the magazines Pizzicato, Melómano and Ritmo, as well as nominations at the MIN Awards and at the ICMA Awards for Best Album in the categories of Soloist and Instrumental Baroque, respectively.

WALKING THE ROYAL ROAD IN LA RIOJA

DATE: Saturday, May 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
LOCATION: From Badarán to Monastery in San Millán de la Cogolla

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Royal Road from Badarán to San Millán: We invite you to join us on the Royal Road from Badarán to the Monastery of Yuso. The route will start in Badarán at 09:30 a.m. where we will enjoy a small breakfast in the town square and we will start the route where musical and theatrical surprises will nourish our way to the Yuso Monastery. Upon arrival at the Monastery, the Dance Company of San Millán will be waiting for us to offer a small sample of the traditional dances of the area.
    This route starts at Plaza del Conde Badarán and, crossing the river Cárdenas through the 'Vado de la Reina' passing near the old Monastery of San Martín de Soto (today the ruins of the Molino de San Martín), continues to Berceo and finally reaches San Millán de la Cogolla, leaving behind the hermitage of Santa Potamia.
  1. Wine tasting and tasting of ‘preñados’: After the end of the concert, around 1:15 p.m., attendees will be able to enjoy a wine tasting and a ‘preñado’ – bread with a chorizo

NOTES:

  • breakfast, as well as wine and preñados tasting is free for all concert attendees and is included with the ticket, no prior registration is required.
  • Wear comfortable clothes for the walk and warm clothes for the concert.
  • Buses will run from San Millán to Badarán from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., approximately every 30 minutes.
